Position Overview

The Nursing Assistant (NA) plays a vital role in delivering care to residents during their scheduled shifts in a long-term care environment. Under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN), the NA provides resident-focused nursing care and assistance with daily living activities, tailored to meet the physical and emotional needs of each resident as outlined in their care plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver age-appropriate care that addresses both physical and psychological needs.
• Assist residents with essential health care tasks, including but not limited to:
• Bathing, toileting, grooming, and dressing/undressing.
• Recording vital signs and offering psychosocial support.
• Facilitating transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using proper techniques and equipment.
• Providing range of motion and passive exercises.
• Contribute to food preparation and dining experiences, ensuring a positive atmosphere for residents.
• Support residents during meals and snacks, offering water and nutritional supplements as needed.
• Assist nursing staff with procedures and document resident interactions and care outcomes.
• Communicate any changes in residents' conditions or care concerns to the charge nurse.
• Maintain cleanliness in living areas through housekeeping and laundry services.
• Encourage resident participation in wellness and recreational programs.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) is preferred but not mandatory.
• Previous clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is advantageous.
• Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of Nursing, or be state-certified within four months of starting the position by enrolling in a training program or obtaining certification through endorsement.
• CNA training and certification will be provided by the facility.
• Complete annual competency testing specific to the department and maintain continuing education credits each year.
• This role may require classification as a Sanford Category II Driver, necessitating compliance with the organization's driving policy as requested by leadership.
