POSITION SUMMARY

The Corporate Controller is a new role, responsible for overseeing the accounting and reporting functions for Pacific Ag, LLC. This role ensures the integrity of the company’s accounting, by making and supervising essential accounting entries, supporting strategic planning, contributing accounting knowledge to the department and providing leadership and management to the accounting team. The Corporate Controller plays a key role in creating and managing accounting processes unique to agriculture - including seasonal revenue and expense cycles and equipment management – and to a multi-entity operation, including intercompany activity.

We run an extensive fleet of equipment within a national footprint, from our headquarters in Hermiston, Oregon. Our recently acquired subsidiary, Reinert Hay & Commodities, is based in Dawn, Texas and is the largest source of value-added animal feed and associated logistics in North Texas. Our mission is:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Principally responsible for the accounting for our Oregon business and a leader of the team responsible for the Texas business.
  • Supervise the individuals responsible for the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory.
  • Directly responsible for bank reconciliations, general ledger, fixed asset-related accounting matters (acquisitions and dispositions, financing, leases, depreciation), and intercompany activity.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present timely and accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow projections, and variance reports.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial records are balanced and reconciled.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audits, financial reviews, and the preparation of annual tax filings.
  • Support annual budgeting processes, including preparation, consolidation, and variance analysis, supporting operational managers with financial planning.
  • Support ad hoc financial planning and analysis.
  • Identify training needs and mentor accounting team members, fostering continuous development.
  • Play a key role within the accounting and finance team on identifying and implementing improvements in processes and technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business operations, cost control, and process improvement initiatives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises two accounting employees.
  • Indirectly supervises two AP/AR/Inventory staff.
  • Jointly responsible for recruitment, training, performance management, and development of team members.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, labor laws, and fosters a positive team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of relevant post-graduate education, professional certifications, and experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation strongly preferred, even if lapsed.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; ten (10) or more years preferred.
  • Prior experience within agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, or related industries is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise with accounting software applications and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred; familiarity with agriculture-focused ERP platforms considered an asset.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple priorities and projects within a dynamic, seasonal business environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primarily an on-site role at our corporate headquarters in Hermiston, Oregon, requiring in-office presence most workdays, with limited remote work flexibility.
  • Primarily office-based with minimal noise; occasional visits to field or operational sites may be required.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate verbally and electronically.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
